United Volleyball Club of the Rockies Coaches:

Executive Djasonirector AJ Egli has coached club since 1998 and founded United in 2012. United has signed 28 players to play college volleyball in the last 5 club seasons.

In 2021, AJ's United 17 National team advanced into the Gold Medal Round at every USA Volleyball event they attended and were in the Championship Match twice.

In 2021, seven of the United Beach teams qualified for USAV Nationals in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. We had a team finish 17th in OPEN, and a team finish 5th in Club.

In 2018, AJ's United 18 National team advanced into the Gold Medal Round at Crossroads, the biggest National Qualifier in the nation. They finished 5th on AJ's birthday.

In 2018, three of our United Beach teams qualified for USAV Nationals. Both of our 18s teams finished in the Gold Medal Round (17th in the nation). 

AJ has a passion for volleyball and has mentored many coaches and countless young ladies. He is CAP II Accredited in the USA Volleyball High Performance Program, Beach IMPACT Certified, Indoor MPACT Certified, and is a NCAA College Referee.

He has been married for 30 years to his lovely wife, Jennifer. They have a son, Zachary.

Director of Coaching, Rick Reynolds coached at Idaho State (D1) for four years and had a 69-58 record and in conference, the Bengals boasted a winning percentage of 64.7% (44-24). He had six players earn first-team all-conference honors and six players earn second-team all-conference recognition. His team advanced to the tournament title game in 2015.

Prior to Idaho State, Rick had a stellar career at Western Wyoming Community College (NJCAA). In his seven years, he led the team to a 197-87 record. He won the Conference Championships twice. His team finished third in the nation in 2010 and second in the nation in 2011.

Rick was voted Coach of the Year in 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2013. He produced six NJCAA All-Americans, five AVCA All-Americans, and five NJCAA National Championship All-Tournament members.

Prior to his time at Western Wyoming, Reynolds spent three years at the University of North Carolina Wilmington where he coached two All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie Team members, one CAA Player of the Week and two CAA Rookie of the Week award winners.

Prior to UNC Wilmington, Reynolds was the head coach for both volleyball and softball at Colorado Northwestern Community College. He helped two of his players become All-Scenic West Athletic Conference and All-Region XVIII players.

Reynolds is married to his lovely wife, Brenna and has three daughters, Keylee, Kaysen and Kyndal.

Director of Middle School, Dennis Sunderland developed a passion for volleyball while serving in Air Force for 23 years. He has been playing indoor, outdoor- doubles, 4-man, grass and beach since 1988.

Highlights include Air Force USAFE Champions 1988, second place AMC Championship 1995; Several top 3 finishes in regional men’s open tournaments 1991-1998. Base Level Setter from 1994-2000. He has played tournaments in seven different countries. His coaching experience includes: Air Force Squadron Coach from 1993-2010 with two Base Championships, never finishing below 5th place, ever.

In 2017-2019, Dennis was the Colorado Mesa University Head Coach for the Men's and Women's Club Programs in Grand Junction, CO. In 2017, his CMU Men's team finished 5th in the Region, being eliminated by Air Force ironically. Air Force was ranked second in the nation at the time.

Dennis is IMPACT Certified, Beach IMPACT Certified and CAP II Accredited in the USA Volleyball High Performance Program. He desires to improve the quality of players by increasing skills, knowledge and character leading to an abundant life through life skills taught by the game.

GLENWOOD SPRINGS

jasonCoach Jason Obreque has played both the Setter and Libero positions with different teams at different levels of play from high school through collegiate winning many championships along the way. He developed his love for the game at a very young age from his father and has continued to surround himself with the game in one way or another.

“I love that moment when one of your players pulls off a play that we have been practicing, in a game, and looks over to you on the bench with a huge smile as if to say “Nailed it”; makes all the hard work, time and effort put in, worth it.”

Jason was a libero / setter practice player for the Argentinan National Team in 2007. He has been an Assistant and Coach for Nebraska Elite. Jason started with United in 2017 as a Setting Coach. This year Jason is coaching United's Glenwood 15s team.

jasonCoach Jennifer Dority comes to us with a lot of experience both on and off the court. She played Middle Blocker at NCAA D1 Bradley University in Peoria, Illiniois from 1994-1998. She plays beach and grass, and 4-man leagues.

Jenn was Asst Coach at Roaring Fork High School for 3 seasons. Roaring Fork was a State contender in two of those years. Jenn became Head Coach from 2013-2015. In 2016, she stepped down to make United a higher priority.

Jenn started her coaching career with United as a Middle Blocker Coach in 2015. Since then she has head coached 13s, 14s, and 15s teams in Glenwood. This year she is our Glenwood 14s coach.

Jenn is IMPACT Certified through USA Volleyball and attended the USAV Volleyball High Performance Coaching Clinic at the Olympic Training Center in 2016.

jasonCoach Bailey Everhart grew up watching and playing volleyball at a young age. Starting at kindergarten Bailey would attend the Aspen Middle School practices as her mother was the coach. Bailey played all four years on the Varsity volleyball team earning CHSAA-All Conference Honors her junior & senior year and CHSAA-Honorable Mention All-State her senior year. She went on to play D3 volleyball at Lake Forest College where she also played basketball and rugby. As an adult, she plays in co-ed recreational leagues and plays in double tournaments. She most recently won the Snowmass Doubles Tournament (A division).

Bailey’s coaching career started when she was in college and coached 16s for Libertyville Juniors. When she moved back to Aspen, she coached for her alma matter, Aspen High School for two years. Then she moved on to coach for Basalt High School and Valley Chaos. Last season, she coached the 17 Glenwood National Team for United VBC under Dennis Sunderland. This season Bailey is assisting Dennis with the Glenwood 17s team again as well as assisting David with the Aspen 14s team.

When not coaching, Bailey’s full-time job is Director of Membership & Communications at Maroon Creek Club. She loves adventuring the outdoors with her dog, and is an avid Cyclebar participant, but mostly spends her time coaching or training players.

GRAND JUNCTION

MichCoaches Michelle and Wyatt Smith met because of volleyball and have continued to play, officiate, and coach ever since. They have three adult-ish children: Lukas, Jessica, and Katie, all of which played or are playing college soccer.

Michelle played college volleyball as a setter and opposite hitter. Currently, she is a USA Volleyball National Official and a NCAA College Official.

Wyatt would play anywhere on the court they would put him. He put his defensive skills to work later in life when he took up soccer.

As coaches, they want to help their players get better technically and raise their volleyball IQ. Play hard and have fun! This year, Michelle is our 13s group head coach, both her and Wyatt are coaching United's 13-1 team.

They are both IMPACT certified through USA Volleyball.

jasonCoach Lindsay Clayton played all four years at her high school in New Mexico as a setter and an outside, which turned into playing for two seasons on the Adams State women's volleyball team in Alamosa.


Lindsay began her coaching career in Shiprock, New Mexico in 2010 as the JV coach for the Lady Chieftains, and ended the 2011 season as the head varsity coach. Relocating to Grand Junction brought a new focus, and Lindsay coached at Central High School from 2012-2015, manning the freshman squad.

United has had the pleasure of having Lindsay as a coach for several years, and this year she is our 12s group head coach overseeing all 4 of our 12s teams.

Lindsay teaches 8th grade in District 51, and is the Head Coach at Caprock Academy in GJ. 

Lindsay is IMPACT Certified through USA Volleyball.

jasonCoach Keli McCabe started playing volleyball as an adult for fun, but soon found a true passion for it as a club coach. She coached in Grand Junction from 2000 to 2014. After a short sabbatical, she returned to coach for United as a beach coach at the USA Volleyball Junior Beach Nationals in Siesta Key, FL, where her daughter competed. She enjoys playing indoor 4's and 6's as well as outdoor grass and beach.

She has a 27 year-old son that attends CMU and a 17 year-old daughter that plays volleyball for United. This year Keli is assistant coaching the 17s team.

"One of my favorite moments is watching previous players become wonderful young women, that now coach. Knowing that they are also spreading the love of the game, as I did with them."

Coach Nick Hazlewood started coaching with United VBC in 2017-18 season as the 18s National Team Assistant Coach. In 2018, he was the Assistant Coach for the 18s National Team that advanced into the Gold Medal Round at Crossroads in Denver and finished 5th.

In 2018 and 2019, Nick coached with the United Beach Program. In 2018, Nick coached one of the three teams that qualified for USA Volleyball Beach Nationals in Siesta Key, FL. The 18s team that Nick coached finished in the Gold Medal Round, 17th in the nation.

This year, Nick is the 14s group head coach and is coaching United's 14-1 team with Ashley.

Nick is IMPACT certified through USA Volleyball.
